Barbara Ungepflegt lebt und arbeitet in Wien, ist Performance- und Installationskünstlerin und Kulturwissenschaftlerin. In vielen ihrer Arbeiten setzt sie sich mit Zwischenräumen und Utopien, mit dem oszillierenden Spiel zwischen Sein und Schein auseinander. Sie ist Gründerin und Leiterin des Universitätslehrgangs für angewandte Dramaturgie, der 2017 bis 2023 an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien als postgraduales Studium angeboten wurde. Im Wintersemester 2020 war sie Fellow am Internationalen Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften, 2022 promovierte sie (summa cum laude) im Fachbereich angewandte Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften an der Kunstuniversität Linz zum Thema „Exklusive Leerzeichen“. Zudem ist sie Herausgeberin der Kunstzeitschrift IMMERHIN / AFTER ALL und Preisträgerin des Dissident Goddesses Temple Price (2019) für ihre Büroinstallation Büro Zimmer Frei. Für 2024 erhielt sie von der Kulturabteilung der Stadt Wien das Arbeitsstipendium für darstellende Kunst. Seit 2023 ist sie Mitglied des Institute of Strollology und seit 2025 gemeinsam mit Univ.Prof. Dr. Andrea Glauser für die Sektion RAUM und KULTUR der Kulturwissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft verantwortlich. Gründerin und Intendantin des Festival Pommes 260 - Geräusche Bilder Fettiges in Mariazell (AT) 2024, 2025. Seit 2010 präsentiert Barbara Ungepflegt ihre Installationen, Interventionen, Performances und Vorträge im In- und Ausland. Zuletzt präsentierte sie im April 2026 im Österreichischen Kulturforum Tokio ihre Arbeit im Rahmen der Ausstellung Vienna and its international Affairs

Barbara Ungepflegt lives and works in Vienna as a performance- and installation artist and artistic researcher. In many of her works, she deals with in-between spaces and utopias, and with the oscillating interaction between being and illusion. She is founder and director of the University Programme for Applied Dramaturgy, a postgraduate programme offered at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from 2017 to 2023. In 2022, she completed her PhD (summa cum laude) in Applied Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Art and Design Linz on the topic of ‘Exclusive Blank Spaces’. In addition, she is editor of the art magazine IMMERHIN / AFTER ALL and winner of the Dissident Goddesses Temple Prize (2019) in recognition of her office installation Büro Zimmer Frei. Since 2010, Barbara Ungepflegt is presenting her installations, interventions, performances and lectures nationally and internationally. Since 2023 she is member of the Institute of Strollology and since 2025, together with Univ.Prof. Dr. Andrea Glauser, responsible for the section SPACE and CULTURE of the Kulturwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (Cultural Studies Association). Founder and artistic director of the Festival Pommes 260 – Geräusche Bilder Fettiges (Sounds Images Grease) in Mariazell (AT) 2024, 2025. Since 2010, Barbara Ungepflegt has been presenting her art works, interventions, performances, and lectures around the world. Her latest projects are WIENER WEINEN / brixen weint and the exhibition Vienna and its international affairs in Tokyo in April 2026.
