Ganz Bad Ischl feierte am 18. August den Geburtstag von Kaiser Franz I. Barbara Ungepflegt mischte sich unter die Festgäste. Als Flâneurin ungeahnter Abenteuer verwandelte sich Ungepflegt in die
verstorbene Prinzessin Diana. Die Wiener Künstlerin näherte sich der Verherrlichung der Prinzessin von Wales in akribisch
konzipierten öffentlichen Auftritten, die die widersprüchliche Natur einer (doppelten) Existenz und die Zerbrechlichkeit zwischen Selbstbild und Außenbild auf die Spitze treiben.
Zentrale Fragen von Identität, Rollenkonstruktion, Identifikation und Verherrlichung stehen im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit.
Die Bewunderer, die unersättlichen „Mythenkonsumenten“, wie Roland Barthes sie einst beschrieb, kamen an diesem Tag in der
Kulturhauptstadt 2024 mit königlichen Persönlichkeiten wie Kaiser Franz, Sisi und Lady Di in Kontakt. Unabhängig davon, ob sie "echt" waren oder nicht.

The whole of Bad Ischl celebrated the birthday of Emperor Franz I. Barbara Ungepflegt mingled with the guests in attendance. As a flâneur of unsuspected adventures, Ungepflegt transformed herself
into Princess Diana.
The admirers, the insatiable “consumers of myths”, as Roland Barthes once described them, came into contact with royal figures such as Emperor Franz, Sisi and Lady Di on this day. Regardless of
whether they were “real” or not. The Viennese artist approached the glorification of the Princess of Wales in meticulously conceived public appearances that show the contradictory nature of a
(double) existence and the fragility between self-image and external image.
Central questions of identity, construction and glorification are at the heart of these works.
